Pictures from Ephesus, Turkey - one of the best preserved classical cities of the Mediterranean. At it's peak around 100 CE, nearly half a million people lived in Ephesus. Celsus Library pictures, mosaic photos, Great Theatre pictures, and other Ephesus Roman Ruins photos. The oldeset ruins data back to the 6th century BCE. Ephesus was once a seaport, but the bay silted up and the city fell into decline. The Mediterranean Sea is few miles away now and the well preserved ruins let you walk around and see what an ancient Roman city was like.
